Will I have privacy on the property and how much will we see our host?

We have a residence on the property, but the lodges are not in view. Self check in allows you to have a truly secluded stay. Our guests have access to the entire property, including the riverside rotunda, other than the immediate surrounds to our residence.

Can we bring children?

The River is pretty special in how secluded it is. It’s a very different experience than a caravan park and we really want to keep that feel even while sharing with you. So we’re limiting the number of guests we host and we are not hosting kids. There will only ever be a maximum of 8 guests on the property. Again, we hope you can drop your kiddos off with Nanna while you claim some space.

Are the lodges pet friendly?

To protect wildlife, keep our lodges luxe and make sure our nights are peaceful we can’t host your pets. We hope you can drop them off for their own little holiday while you come and reset. We live on the property and do have a couple of dogs ourselves, but they aren’t allowed to wander. If by chance one comes and visits please let us know and we’ll round it up.

What wildlife can we expect to see?

We have so much beautiful wildlife here at The River. We regularly see lyrebirds, sea eagles, black cockatoos, wombats, kangaroos, water monitors….. the list goes on. We also see red belly black snakes on our paths and even the occasional frog in a lodge. The red bellies are generally not interested in interacting and will slink away unless they are cornered or threatened. Please give them a wide berth and leave them be. If you find a frog in your lodge please try to gently catch it and pop it outside or let us know and we’ll help.

Do you have WiFi and TV reception?

The property has pretty ordinary reception and we like it that way. You can make a phone call, do emails and check Insta, but not much else. We turn the WiFi in our office on when we need it, but most of the time we enjoy a WiFi free zone. The lodges do not have WiFi or TVs. We do provide boardgames, books, magazines and a whole lot of opportunities to gaze at nature, fire and water.

What amenities are in each lodge?
  • Luxe Cultiver linen sheets, towels and robes
  • Organic wool and latex king mattresses and duck down pillows from The Natural Bedding Company
  • Wool and linen couches from Maker and Son
  • Beach towels
  • Woolen blankets from Waverly Mills
  • Eco cleaning products from Koala Eco
  • Basic cooking essentials – olive oil, salt/pepper, teas, coffee and fresh herbs (whatever is in the garden)
  • Kitchen equipped with basic appliances and cookware (please note there are no microwaves)
  • Gas heating
  • Boardgames, magazines and books
  • A bath in the big lodge
What makes The River eco-luxe?

We’re not perfect, but we try to live in a way that’s good for us and the planet. When we were thinking about sharing The River with others we knew that if we did we wanted to extend our way of life to the lodges. And that means there a few differences you’ll experience when staying at The River.

All cleaning and toiletry products are free of nasties, including what we wash our sheets in. As we steer clear of bleach, please take care with your beautiful sheets and towels. You’ll find some beach towels in the lodges for outside use.

There’s no little disposable bottles of shampoo! We use bigger bottles and refill them. Our dishwashing cloths are not disposable either – we launder and use again. Our toilet paper is from the amazing team at Who Gives a Crap..

Your lodges have some reusable shopping bags – please use them. And we’d love it if you remember to bring along your reusable coffee cup if you’re into sampling some of the great coffee around.

Your lodge has a worm food bin – please pop in all plant and grain matter other than citrus and onions. When it’s full (or a bit smelly) please drop off in our carport on the way past or text us and we’ll come and collect from your driveway. There’s a replacement bin under your sink.

How do we contact you during our stay?

We turn off our phones between 9pm and 7am, but out of those hours you are welcome to contact us if an issue arises. However we can’t always respond immediately so if it’s an emergency please contact the appropriate emergency services. There is a basic First Aid Kit in our laundry/stores building that you are welcome to access.
